3 Keys to Getting Past the Bursting Point in Business
Hitting six figures in business should feel like a milestone to celebrate. But for many business owners, it feels more like hitting a wall – hard!
Honestly, the struggles at this stage don’t get talked about enough. They’re often brushed aside until you find yourself at what can be described as the bursting point – where demand outweighs your capacity to deliver, and you simply can’t take on one more thing without something breaking.
Does this sound familiar?
❓You’re making money, but it feels like it’s all going straight back out and you’re not sure where it went
❓You’re working longer hours than ever and wondering where the freedom you started your business for has gone
❓You’re drowning in admin, firefighting, and tasks you don’t enjoy – leaving little time for the work you do love
❓Family and friends are asking why you’re glued to your laptop all the time (ouch!)
❓You want to grow, but the thought of taking on another client or project makes you want to run and hide
If you’re nodding along, let me reassure you: you’re not doing anything wrong. You’ve built something people want. That’s huge - congratulations! But you’ve reached the stage where what got you here won’t necessarily get you through.
The good news? It is all fixable. There are three areas you need to focus on if you want to move through the bursting point and create space for growth:
1. Planning
When you’re starting out, flying by the seat of your pants works fine and the adrenaline will carry you forward. But as the clients, projects, and moving parts multiply, that approach becomes hugely stressful, and unsustainable.
This is where strategic planning steps in. Knowing what’s coming up, mapping out launches, tracking projects, and building timelines brings clarity and stability. As an OBM, this is one of the first areas I work on with clients – putting a plan in place that gives back headspace and keeps everyone aligned.
2. People
DIY can get you to six figures, but will it take you past it? At this stage, it’s about deciding where your focus should be (your YES List) and bringing in the right people to handle the rest.
Hiring, onboarding, and managing a team doesn’t have to fall solely on your shoulders. This is where I can help – making sure the right people are in the right seats so you can focus on being the CEO, not the bottleneck.
3. Process
Systems bring freedom. Without them, you’ll forever be answering the same questions, fixing the same mistakes, and chasing your tail (and everyone else’s!)
Processes and SOPs ensure things run smoothly without you being involved in every tiny detail. They create consistency, increase capacity, and build a foundation for growth. And yes, I can help create systems that take the chaos out of your business operations.
The Bottom Line
The bursting point is a rite of passage. It means you’ve built something worth scaling, but you can’t keep running it the same way you did at the start.
If your vision is bigger than your bursting point, it’s time to embrace planning, people, and process. With the right support, you’ll not only move through this phase – you’ll unlock the growth, freedom, and balance you set out to achieve in the first place.
And if you’re ready to stop juggling it all yourself, let’s have a conversation. This is exactly the point where an Online Business Manager can become your secret weapon.
